We had a baby finch for a day, which we found outside on a windy, stormy day. He/she was trying to fly, but was stuck in the grass cause it didn't know how to fly, so it was hopping/ flying and going very slow. Chad picked it up so easily, at first we thought it was hurt, then we realized that it was just a baby. We felt bad because it was just starting to rain and it looked sad and lonely. So we "rescued" it and brought it inside while we tried to figure out what to do with it. We got it some millet at Foodland and tried to feed it, but it was too hard for it to eat. So then we put the millet in our Vitamix and made millet powder, which we added water to to make a paste. We got it to eat some of that so we thought we were doing pretty good. Chad held it to keep it warm, and he made a home for it and surrounded it by a towel to insulate it. We read online that after sunset they don't eat anymore until sunrise at which time they start "asking" for food again by chirping and opening up their mouths.By the time sunrise came our bird was quiet, not chirping but alive. We thought he was just tired. He was like that for most of the day and wouldn't eat even though we kept trying to feed him. I guess he was just winding down. Sadly he died by the end of the day and we felt really bad/sad. Oh well at least he's in birdie heaven now.
